Frequently Asked Questions
Which is the best night tour in La Fortuna?
There is no single "best" — it depends on what you want. For the highest variety of species in one short walk, Ecocentro Danaus is our top pick. For frog photography, Papa's Place. For a deeper, wilder forest feel, El Silencio. Místico is the only one that combines a night walk with hanging bridges.
Are night tours safe?
Yes. The trails at all five reserves are well-maintained, your guide carries a powerful light, and snakes and other wildlife are kept at a safe distance. We have never had a wildlife-related incident on a night walk in our operation.
Will I see red-eyed tree frogs?
In the wet season (May-November), red-eyed tree frog sightings are essentially expected at Papa's Place and very common at Ecocentro Danaus. In the dry months they are still seen but less consistently. No reputable guide ever guarantees specific species — wildlife is wildlife.
Can children join a night walk?
Yes. Papa's Place and Ecocentro Danaus are the most kid-friendly options — short, flat trails. We recommend a private booking with kids so the pace matches them.
Is transport included?
Pickup from your hotel within 10 km of La Fortuna centro is included free on most of our night tours. For farther hotels (El Castillo, Nuevo Arenal area) we add a small transport fee — we quote it upfront when you book.
What if it rains?
Night walks proceed in light rain — it actually improves amphibian activity. If a heavy storm hits, we reschedule with no penalty.
Tell us which spot interests you most and we'll set up a private guided night walk — with optional pickup from your hotel.
