Private photography experiences with expert naturalist photographers
All photography tours are offered as private experiences, ensuring optimal conditions for observation, lighting control, and personalized guidance. Whether you're a seasoned photographer or just getting started, our photography tours in the Arenal region offer incredible opportunities to capture Costa Rica's wildlife. From macro night sessions with frogs and insects to multi-flash hummingbird photography and full-day birding expeditions to remote locations like Boca Tapada, our naturalist photographers guide you to the best shots.
Wildlife photography in the Arenal region works because access is short and subjects are dependable. From your hotel in La Fortuna you reach Strawberry poison dart frogs, Red-eyed tree frogs, eyelash pit vipers, and a dozen hummingbird species within a 30–45 minute drive — most at private reserves where we have working relationships with the rangers.
Our photography tours are 100% private and built around light. Macro night sessions run from sunset to ~10 PM with off-camera flash setups; multi-flash hummingbird sessions use 4–5 strobes and pre-built perches for clean backgrounds; full-day Boca Tapada expeditions target Great Green Macaw and lowland specialties from photography blinds. The guide carries spare batteries, diffusers, a trigger system, and knows the behavior of each target well enough to anticipate the shot.
These outings suit both serious enthusiasts with their own pro gear and travelers shooting on a mirrorless body for the first time — pacing and instruction adapt to you. If you want a structured multi-day program with classroom-style review, see our Costa Rica photography workshop.
