    When to Visit La Fortuna

    Two seasons, two very different vibes. Both are great — it depends on what you value.

    Dry Season — Dec to April

    Clearest volcano views, sunny mornings and afternoons. Higher prices, more crowds, book ahead.

    Green Season — May to November

    Lower prices, lush rainforest, very active wildlife. Mornings clear, afternoons wet — plan tours early.

    How many days do you need in La Fortuna, Costa Rica?+
    2 to 3 days is ideal for most travelers. 1 day is enough for the volcano + waterfall + hot springs combo, but 2–3 days lets you also enjoy hanging bridges, sloth tours, a coffee farm and a night walk. With 4–5 days you can add a Peñas Blancas safari float or specialized birding.
    Is 1 day enough in La Fortuna?+
    Yes, but tightly. With 1 day you can do a guided combo tour (volcano + bridges + waterfall) and end at the hot springs. You miss wildlife, the night tour and the slower-paced experiences.
    Should I do La Fortuna or Monteverde?+
    Most travelers do both — they're only 3.5 hours apart by private transfer. La Fortuna is for volcano + adventure + hot springs; Monteverde is for cloud forest + hanging bridges + cooler weather. If you have only 4–5 days total, focus on La Fortuna.
    What if it rains during my visit?+

    Private transfer from SJO airport (San José) takes about 3 hours and starts at $165. From LIR (Liberia) it takes about 3 hours from $175. Both are door-to-door.

    December–April for clearest volcano views (dry season, high prices, more crowds). May–November (Green Season) for lower prices, lush rainforest and active wildlife — afternoon rains are common but mornings stay clear.
