Adventure Tours in Arenal & La Fortuna, Costa Rica
Volcano trails, waterfalls, rivers and rainforest bridges
Why Adventure in Arenal?
From walking on ancient lava fields at Arenal Volcano to descending 500 steps to the majestic La Fortuna Waterfall, our adventure tours showcase the raw beauty and power of Costa Rica's most iconic landscapes. Float down pristine rivers, cross hanging bridges high above the canopy, and discover why Arenal is one of the world's top adventure destinations.
La Fortuna is Costa Rica's adventure capital. Within 30 minutes of town you can walk on cooled lava flows from the 1968 Arenal eruption, descend 500 stairs into the spray zone of La Fortuna Waterfall, cross hanging bridges 50 meters above the canopy at Mistico, drift a class II safari float on the Peñas Blancas River, or hike the Cerro Chato crater rim. Adventure here is dense and accessible — you don't spend hours driving between attractions.
Our adventure tours are private by default with a near-group price. That means flexible pickup times from your hotel or Airbnb, a guide who paces the day around you, and the freedom to swap stops based on weather. Most outings are half-day; the full La Fortuna Classic Combo (volcano hike + waterfall + hot springs) runs full-day.
We coordinate park entry, transport, lunch, and (when relevant) safety equipment in a single transparent quote. If you want a multi-day adventure stack — rafting, ATV, canyoning, hanging bridges, volcano hike — message us and we will sequence it so each day has a different intensity and recovery.

Why Book With VIVO Expeditions?
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best adventure tour in La Fortuna?
The single most-booked is the La Fortuna Classic Combo: Arenal 1968 lava trail + La Fortuna Waterfall + hot springs in one day. For families, Mistico Hanging Bridges + waterfall is the best fit. For thrill seekers, rafting or canyoning.
How fit do I need to be?
Most adventure tours suit average fitness. The waterfall stairs (500 down + 500 up) are the toughest standard activity — we go at your pace and there is no time pressure. Volcano trails are mostly flat with optional climbs.
Is round-trip transport from my hotel included?
Yes — pickup and drop-off from any hotel, Airbnb, or rental in the La Fortuna / Arenal area is included in every adventure tour we book.
What should I wear and bring?
Hiking shoes or sturdy sneakers, quick-dry clothing, swimwear under your clothes, sunscreen, insect repellent, water bottle, and a light rain jacket (afternoon showers are common). For waterfalls, a small dry bag is useful.
Can adventure tours be combined with hot springs the same day?
Yes — and most guests do. A typical day: morning waterfall or volcano hike, lunch, mid-afternoon transfer, hot springs from 4 PM. We sequence transport so nothing feels rushed.
Are private adventure tours expensive?
Not with us. Our private adventure prices are competitive because we run them efficiently from La Fortuna with no middlemen. The per-person cost drops significantly with groups of 4+.
