The staircase down to the base has 530 concrete steps with handrails. Descent takes 15–20 min, the climb back up 25–35 min depending on your pace. There are benches every 100 steps. Not recommended for guests with severe knee issues.
Can you swim in La Fortuna Waterfall?+
Swimming directly under the fall is prohibited (strong current, falling debris). There is a large natural pool 30 meters downstream where swimming is allowed and lifeguards are on duty during peak hours. Water is cold (~20°C) — refreshing after the climb.
