    How long does La Fortuna to Monteverde take?
    With a private transfer, 3 hours door-to-door. Jeep-boat-jeep is 3–4 hours including the boat crossing. Shared shuttle is 4–5 hours with multiple stops. Self-driving varies but expect 3–3.5 hours — more if road conditions are bad.
    Is the Jeep-Boat-Jeep worth it?
    If you're a solo traveler on a budget and you're not in a rush, yes — the Lake Arenal boat crossing with Arenal Volcano in the background is genuinely scenic. If you're traveling as a family or group, a private transfer at $200 total works out cheaper per person and faster.
    Can I drive a regular car to Monteverde?
    Officially, car rental companies say 4WD is required and your insurance may be void if you use a 2WD on the unpaved approach. In dry season, some people get through with a high-clearance 2WD. In wet season (May–October), we strongly recommend 4WD. A tow from the mountain is expensive and ruins your day.
