travel-tips
This is the exact 3-day itinerary we build for families arriving in La Fortuna with kids 5–14. It balances wildlife, adventure, downtime, and one "wow" evening — with realistic timings, low-stress transitions, and honest notes on what works for younger travelers. Children 5–10 pay 70% of adult rates, infants 0–4 pay only 20% — this itinerary is priced accordingly.

Excellent. Most tours have flat, shaded trails under 3 km, guides specifically trained for kids, and short 2–3 hour durations. Sloth walks, hanging bridges, hot springs, and night frog tours are all family highlights.
With VIVO Expeditions, children 5–10 pay 70% of the adult rate and infants 0–4 pay only 20% (covers minimum operator cost). This applies to almost all tours in our catalog.
Kids from age 5 do great on night walks. Guides use red-light headlamps that don't scare frogs and keep the pace relaxed. Under 5 is possible but the 5:30 PM start and 2-hour duration can be tough for toddlers.
Not for a 3-day tour-focused visit. Our tours include hotel pickup within downtown La Fortuna. A rental car helps for outlying hotels (Arenal Observatory, El Castillo) or if you want to explore waterfalls and lookouts on free afternoons.
