The hide at Boca Tapada is a seated, covered structure positioned at close range to a regular King Vulture feeding site. Our guides maintain the site and can reliably call in King Vultures during most visits. The hide allows you to shoot at eye level with the birds at distances of 12–15 meters — impossible to achieve in open forest.

Use a 400–600mm telephoto lens. In the hide, birds are close enough that 300mm can work for environmental shots. Set shutter speed to 1/1000s or faster for sharp shots of birds landing and taking off. ISO 400–1600 depending on cloud cover. Burst mode is essential — the most dramatic moments last under a second.
