    Frequently asked questions

Do I need my own macro lens?+

Bring what you have — a 90–105mm macro is ideal, but our guides also shoot with 60mm and telephoto+extension-tube combos. If you have zero macro gear, we can arrange a Laowa 25mm probe or 100mm rental with advance notice.

    What subjects will I photograph?+

Red-eyed tree frogs, glass frogs, poison dart frogs, praying mantis, leafcutter ants, orchid bees, tarantulas, snake portraits, katydids, and rare fungi. Every night walk produces 8–15 keeper macro subjects.

Best month for macro in La Fortuna?+

May through November — peak humidity means peak frog activity. June and July are ideal for red-eyed tree frog breeding behavior. Dry season (January–April) still produces excellent insects and reptiles.

Do you offer private photography workshops?+

Yes — 1-on-1 or small-group workshops with a specialized macro guide, twin-flash setups, diffuser support and post-processing tips. Ideal for portfolio builders and serious hobbyists.
