Unlike white-water rafting, the Peñas Blancas is a calm, Class I river perfect for wildlife spotting. Your inflatable raft moves quietly with the current, allowing close encounters with animals that would flee from motorized boats. Expert guides paddle and narrate the entire experience.

Wildlife You'll Encounter

Common sightings include howler monkeys, white-faced capuchins, two-toed sloths, spectacled caimans, green iguanas, Jesus Christ lizards, kingfishers, herons, toucans, and ospreys. During wet season, river otters are occasionally spotted.

The safari float is one of our most popular family tours. Children as young as 4 can enjoy the float safely. There's no swimming required — you stay in the raft the entire time. Life jackets are provided for all passengers.

Best Time & What to Bring

Morning floats (starting 7:00–8:00 AM) offer the best wildlife activity. Bring sunscreen, a hat, binoculars if you have them, and a waterproof camera or phone case. We provide water and snacks.
